CW-NAS-AMD-FP7-20G - BIOS suggestions
Officially repliedWhen buying this board, I was initially worried about the potential lack of BIOS updates for this board - ever-so-important with current generation platforms constantly having security patches and fixes released for them. I'm happy to see the things aren't as bad and effort is being made to improve the BIOS for this board Making use of this, I would like to post a few suggestions for the BIOS I would love to see improved:
- 70W power profile
The current BIOS offers the 54W power profile, which it defaults to. However, the CPU this board comes with has even more to offer - by manually raising the power limit to 70W, one can achieve substantially more performance - up to 40%/50% depending on the workload. - More CPU and RAM tweaking controls
I don't know how much the use of a mobile chip restricts you in this regard, but with the power limits cranked all the way up, thermals start becoming the limiting factor. What would help even more to not only improve performance further but even increase the longevity of the CPU as well as its efficiency, would be exposed controls over Curve Optimizer as well as DRAM timings and voltages. - Fixes for SATA/Granular control over SATA ports
The board comes with 8 SATA ports. However, for some reason Linux (or, in my case, Debian specifically) detects a whopping 48 SATA ports on this board. This stalls the boot process by a few seconds as the system queries each and every one of these 48 ports. The kernel-side methods of preventing this from happening aren't reliable, so perhaps it's possible to correct this via BIOS?
Additionally, the option to toggle each SATA port individually in the BIOS would be great. - Allow us to toggle all the options
IOMMU is force-enabled, for example. Why not let us disable it?
Thank you for your question. We have noted it down, will study its feasibility and try to resolve it, with a view to including it in future BIOS updates.
