Proxmox issues
Hi
I recently acquired a CW-ADLN-NAS motherboard with 4 2.5gbps ports. I am trying to install Proxmox 8.4 (though a Rufus USB) and I encounter some issues. The motherboard is paired with a 32Gb Crucial ddr5 stick and a Adata 256Gb nvme.
Edit: I also have a WD red 4TB SATA drive connected.
The install is successfully but I try to run the server headless (no display and no keyboard). If I remove them, everytime I power it on I get 5 beeps and no server access. If I plug the video back on, boot gets stuck at 'Loading initial ramdisk...'
I changed different bios settings without success.
Can anyone help run this headless without any boot errors?
Edit: I noticed it boots fine, with video cable connected, if I disconnect the 4tb SATA drive.
I managed to fix the 'loading initial ramdisk...' error by enabling spin at startup of the SATA drive. The 5 beeps are for having no HDMI or keyboard connected. The issue I still have is that proxmox does not boot connected to a 10gbps switch.
Next step would be to connect a display and keyboard with the switch and check the boot log. I'll update this post.
If anyone can help to make the motherboard post without display and keyboard and without warning beeps, would be greatly appreciated.
Hello, if you happen to have lower frequency memory, give it a try. Most users who install ESXi or PVE will unplug their monitors, mice, and keyboards, only keeping the power and network. This is reasonable. It should also achieve thiseffect. I believe that what you mentioned about not using the SATA controller automatically solving the problem is not what you want to see. Please inform me of your specific parameter configuration, and I will test the same system as yours with the same configuration. If ther eare better solutions, I will reply to you in this thread.
The 5 beeps are once for missing display and once for missing keyboard (let me know if there is a way for setting up bios to allow headless operation).
I believe the 'loading initial ramdisk...' issue is caused by Proxmox kernel. Keep you posted
Thanks for your replies
Based on the information you provided, it seems that your system is encountering some startup issues. If you want to run the system without a monitor, you can try one of the following two solutions:
1. Use an HDMI signal emulator: This device can make your host think that a monitor is connected, allowing you to start the system without an actual monitor. Typically, we use it to make home computers or other devices that do not require a monitor work properly.
2. Change the operating system: You can try using other operating systems such as Debian or VMware ESXi. These operating systems can run without a monitor and can be managed remotely through the network.
I hope these solutions will help you solve the problem.
Hello.
Sorry, I do not have the option of changing the OS. I have bought a HDMI dummy plug (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008040598601.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.17.30171802dDdcAm) that is working on other systems but i still have issues with the mainboard.
As long as I remove the display, it stops booting
